Our second free community workshop: continuing digital literacy and skills-building for the community.

Building momentum through consistency

We’ve now completed our second free community workshop, focused on digital literacy and practical ICT skills.

Repetition matters. When people learn in stages, they gain confidence faster and they are more likely to keep practicing at home or at work.

Many learners want to jump to advanced topics, but they struggle because the foundation is weak. Workshop #2 was designed to strengthen the foundation and help people build habits that stick.

What we focused on

1) Revisiting safety with real examples

In the first session, we introduced safety basics. In this second session, we revisited it with more examples.

We looked at:

  • how scams are written
  • what suspicious links look like
  • what to do when someone asks for money urgently

We encouraged people to verify information through a second channel. If a message claims to be from a friend, call the friend. If a message claims to be from a company, check the official website.

2) Digital organization for real life

We focused on practical organization:

  • how to create folders on a phone
  • how to name files properly
  • how to keep copies of important documents

We explained that organization reduces stress. When someone asks for your CV, your certificates, or your ID, you should not be searching for 30 minutes.

3) Online tools and confidence

We introduced simple online tools that can help:

  • email
  • cloud storage
  • basic forms

We encouraged people not to fear forms. Forms are now part of:

  • job applications
  • school registration
  • service requests

The more you practice, the less scary it becomes.

What we learned from participants

One of the best parts of Workshop #2 was hearing real struggles.

People asked about:

  • losing passwords
  • being scammed on WhatsApp
  • not knowing how to submit documents
  • not understanding email

This reminded us that training should always start from real needs. When learning feels relevant, people pay attention.

Why this matters

Digital literacy is now a basic life skill.

It affects:

  • jobs
  • education
  • business
  • safety

If we help people build confidence, we help them access opportunities.

Next steps

We’ll continue improving our workshop format and expanding to reach more people who need skills training and support.

We also want to create simple take home materials so participants can practice after sessions.

Our goal is to build a community where people are not intimidated by technology, but are empowered to use it safely and effectively.

How to use this article

Use this as a practical guide. If you’re reading as a team, assign actions and test the ideas on a real project.

Identify your goal and constraints (time, tools, skills)
Apply one section at a time and measure results
Document what worked so it becomes a reusable workflow
